Description: This is the first level in the fire and life safety series. This class is responsible for firefighting and emergency response. Enters incident reports and updates daily log; keeps equipment prepared for emergency response. Performs firefighting duties; performs as basic emergency medical technician in emergency response situations. Participates in required training classes with and for firefighters, also participates in classes to obtain degree. Participates in physical fitness program. Provides community service, assists citizens with questions and fire protection issues, public education. Serves as a member of employee team to support department operations. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Both Firefighter I and II are included in this classification. As experience and training increase the level of responsibility and accountability within each essential duty increases. Firefighter II has the ability and training to drive the fire truck, to safely transport personnel to and from locations, including emergency response. Each level of Firefighter has an increasing amount of experience and training required prior to promotion (if a position is available). An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Only job applications will be accepted.
