The Metro Nashville Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of Fire Recruit. Candidates MUST apply online at www.nashville.gov to be considered.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

1. Complete online application. Be sure to make note of, and save, your online Username ID and Password, as you will need this information in order to check the status of your application and receive important information concerning the physical ability exam and written exam process that you may be asked to undergo.

Note: When you are completing your application, make sure you save your application information at least every twenty minutes.

2. ALL INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE COMMUNICATED BETWEEN THE APPLICANT AND METRO'S DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES BY E-MAIL only.

3. Applications will be assessed according to the requirements listed below and the information provided by the applicant.

4. For qualified candidates, there will be a physical ability exam. Those meeting the physical ability testing requirements will proceed to a written exam. Physical ability examinations will be scheduled to begin on August 9, 2010.

5. Qualified candidates will be required to SELF-SCHEDULE for both the physical ability and written exams. Written instructions will be e-mailed following review of all applications.

6. Practice written exams are available online (for a fee): http://www.fireteamtest.com/.

7. A picture ID (valid Driver's License) will be required to be presented during the check-in process for both exams.

8. The only document you may attach to your application is a copy of your DD214 (Veterans Only) . Please do not attach, send or bring any other document(s) to the testing site unless notified to do so.

SELECTION PROCESS (Post physical ability and written exams):

1. Following the successful completion of the physical ability and written examinations an eligibility register will be established in accordance to Civil Service Commision rules.

2. The Nashville Fire Department will notify candidates to be interviewed.

3. The Nashville Fire Department will notify the selected candidates with a conditional offer of employment.

4. Candidates receiving a conditional offer of employment must provide copies of the following documents: High School Diploma or GED; U.S. Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate; Valid Driver's License; and Social Security Card.

5. A background investigation, drug screening, and medical exam will be conducted.

6. A tentative offer of employment will be offered pending the successful completion of background investigation, drug screening, and medical exam.


Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma and a valid "Class D" Driver's License.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be a U.S. Citizen at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.

2. Candidates may file applications two(2) months prior to their twenty-first (21) birthday; i.e. age twenty- one (21) no than than October 26, 2010. However, they may not be appointed until they are at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

3. Must meet the Medical Evaluations of Candidates criteria in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guideline; NFPA 1582, Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments (current Edition). Available at: http://www.nfpa.org

GENERAL INFORMATION:
NOTE: A Fire Recruit may be assigned to any bureau within the Nashville Fire Department (Fire Suppression Bureau, Emergency Medical Service Bureau, etc.). Even if assigned to the Fire Suppression Bureau, the majority of calls will be dealing with emergency medical service responses.
