Q. Can I be on the list for both Fire Cadet and Fire Cadet Senior?
A. Yes, but you will need to apply for each position during the application period, meet the minimum qualifications, and complete the exams for each position. In order to be on each list, an individual must successfully complete each employment process.

Q. If I apply for Cadet Senior and don't meet the qualifications, will I automatically be put into the applicant pool for Fire Cadet?
A. No. In order to be considered for both positions, you need to submit an application for each position.

The following information is subject to change. The written exam for Fire Cadet Senior is scheduled for January 11, 2011 at the Austin Convention Center. The exam date is subject to change depending on the number of applications received for each position or other circumstances. Individuals who apply for the position and meet the minimum qualifications will receive specific information on the exam date after the application window closes.

The date for meeting the age requirement for Fire Cadet is January 26, 2011. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, not to exceed age 35, on January 26, 2011.
We anticipate hiring approximately 120 cadets in 2011. The number of cadets in each class, the start date for each class, and the number hired from each list have not been determined at this time.
CPAT - We are in the planning phase for the Candidate Physical Ability Test© (CPAT). Dates for orientation sessions, practice runs, and the timed test have not been determined. Information will be posted on the AFD employment website http://www.cityofaustin.org/fire/hiring.htm when available.
