Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs functions related to medical records. Performs transportation duties and patient care. Participates in regularly scheduled training programs. Performs supervisory tasks at EMS incidents as needed. Performs inspection of station and maintenance. Participates in fire prevention and life safety skills. Responds to fire alarms; actively participates in fire suppression, life rescue procedures, and Haz-mat incidents. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Sergeant in his/her absence. Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes; and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills:
Knowledge of basic life support and patient care. Knowledge of basic firefighting and life rescue techniques. Knowledge of the Incident Command System procedures, fire behavior, building construction, and pumping operations. Knowledge of extrication and mechanical techniques. Knowledge of fire apparatus, equipment operations, and response territory. Knowledge of the maintenance of smoke detectors, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors. Skill in driving safely during life-threatening situations. Skill in computers and various software programs. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication.
Education:
Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age have a high school diploma or GED, Specialized Training, Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Public Safety or a related field; one to two years of progressively responsible related experience, or any combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Must possess the ability to readily obtain appropriate state EMS certification. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee must frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
